One of our accredited walk leaders is Diane Jones who we first met in November 2016 after she joined in on a Taster session. Diane’s main concern, having completed the taster session, was whether she would be able to keep up with everyone, but her determination to succeed led to her walking with Simon on a regular basis. Within a short space of time Diane’s fitness improved dramatically and with encouragement, she started to pick up the pace and improve her posture too (although Diane will tell you her posture is still a work in progress!). Diane’s improvement and determination led to her being asked to take a walk leaders course, which she did and is how she is one of our leaders today. A year and a half ago, Diane was worried she wouldn’t be able to keep up and today she is leading the pack.
One of Diane’s main motivation’s for taking up Nordic Walking to start with was to improve her fitness, what she didn’t realise was how many friends she would make and how lucky she felt seeing the changing seasons on the Chase.
Diane says that the ‘improvement in my fitness and attitude towards exercise has not only amazed me but, but my family too. I can now look at a hill and think that I can certainly get to the top and I have been known to run down a hill too!’
Diane is married with 3 children and is a retired teacher. Not only is she one of our walk leaders but she also volunteers for the National Trust at Shugborough. Diane leads our more gentle pace walks where the pleasures of walking are very much combined with conversation and taking in the pleasures of the beautiful Chase scenery.
